Blandwood Restoration Work

Thanks in part to recent grants from the Marion Stedman Covington Foundation, the Greensboro Crescent Rotary Club, and the Greensboro Convention and Visitors Bureau a restoration project is taking place on the rear facade, or the oldest portions, of Blandwood November and December of 2008.

The main focus of this project is the maintenance of the rear façade.  Over the years exposure has caused deterioration to the wood clapboards.

Another important aspect of this project is to create access to the back half of the house and the public restroom for our mobility impaired visitors by providing a walkway and a ramp to the back porch level. Once this is accomplished we will be able to provide handicapped access to 100% of the first level of Blandwood.  Due to its multiple construction phases Blandwood has levels instead of one floor on its interior.

Lastly, this project provides an opportunity to recreate historically accurate columns, railings, and double side entrances for the porch.  Historic photo of rear porch, the basis for the restoration work.

The Historic Workshop Inc, based in Southern Pines, is undertaking the restoration work.
