8 March 2007 - On March 1, at the annual meeting of the North Carolina Museum Council (NCMC) in Hickory, N.C., Ashley Crayton Poteat, Director/Curator of Blandwood, was elected to the officer’s position of Secretary after serving two terms as the Public Relations Chair. 

The NCMC, is a non-profit organization run by an all volunteer Board of Directors who strive to enhance public education by improving the administrative, interpretive, and collections practices of museums, historic sites, science centers and related facilities in North Carolina. NCMC also strives to stimulate public support for the work performed by these facilities, and to provide a forum in which Council members exchange ideas and foster cooperation and improved communication with the communities they serve.  The NCMC elects portions of their board on a rotating basis every year.

Ashley's duties at Blandwood Mansion include managing the museum, museum staff, curatorial issues, and the Blandwood Museum Shop. "We are pleased that Ashley has been selected for this role with NCMC," says Benjamin Briggs, Executive Director of Preservation Greensboro Incorporated and parent organization of Blandwood Mansion, "it demonstrates Ashley's commitment to North Carolina's network of museums and related forums." Blandwood is the nineteenth century home of former governor John Motley Morehead. It was designed by New York architect A. J. Davis and stands as one of two National Historic Landmarks in Greensboro.

Preservation Greensboro Incorporated is a nonprofit membership organization that helps protect treasured historic and architecturally significant places. Established in 1966, PGI's programs range from educational seminars and walking tours to annual awards, children's activities and the news magazine, Landmarks. Its subsidiary organizations include the Preservation Revolving Fund, Architectural Salvage of Greensboro, Blandwood Mansion and Museum Shop, the Blandwood Carriage House, and the Blandwood Ball.
