The Breeden House
Located at 1220 Randolph Avenue on a large corner lot, the Breeden House is situated south of downtown Greensboro inside the historic neighborhood of Arlington Park. Architectural evidence and research indicate this 2,753+ square foot Queen Anne home was built around 1905. The historically significant house displays a high-pitched cross-gable roof with shed roof additions. A second level sun-porch exists on the houses south-side.
Sanborn maps reveal an original L-shaped porch stretched the length of the house’s east and north- sides. The east-side porch was integrated into the main structure after the last half of the twentieth century. This space today is divided between two of the first floor rooms. The north-side porch still exists as enclosed rooms. The front door features two long sidelights to each side.
The interior centers on a grand foyer that opens into a spacious and ornate stair hall. The home’s original pine flooring remain visible in the most formal rooms. There are fourteen rooms downstairs (including porch enclosures) and four upstairs with bathrooms on both levels. Three fireplaces exist on the first level which still retains their ornate mantels. A large sleeper porch still exists on the upper levels with original operable windows and screens. Upon restoration this historically significant Breeden home will once again add character and charm to the Asheboro neighborhood.
