The Breeden House
Located at 1220 Randolph Avenue on a large corner lot, the Breeden House is situated south of downtown Greensboro inside the historic neighborhood of Arlington Park.
Architectural evidence and research indicate this Queen Anne home was built around 1905. The historically significant house displays a high-pitched cross-gable roof with shed roof additions. Simple post-on-pier porch supports add character to the front facade.
Sanborn maps reveal an original L-shaped porch stretched the length of the house’s east and north- sides. The east-side porch was integrated into the main structure after the last half of the twentieth century.
The interior centers on a grand foyer that opens into a spacious and ornate stair hall. The home’s original pine flooring remain visible in the most formal rooms. Several fireplaces exist on the first level and some retain their ornate mantels.
In 2010, the City of Greensboro commenced a throrough rehabilitation of the project, including removal of porch additions, new siding, new mechanicals, and a new roof. The house has helped to stablelize this historic neighborhood and encourage reinvestment.
